NEW Virtual Workshop Offering from High 5: Connections Before Content
The use of the classic “Ice Breaker” activity can often backfire, making it more of an “ice-maker” experience for participants.
The concept of Connections before Content takes the value of an ice breaker (to laugh, connect, create a sense of anticipation for what’s next) and examines those aspects that can make activities feel awkward, perhaps isolating and most significantly-disconnected from the overall objective of the gathering.
This engaging workshop will demonstrate at least a dozen simple and effective connection activities and strategies that are applicable to a wide range of audiences.
Participants will be able to:
- Draw upon a variety of experiential activities to engage with their groups
- Modify connection activities to make them most relevant to their group’s needs
- Explain to their groups why they are doing certain activities
- Discern which activities merit structured framing and reflection
- Model for their groups that connection through play is effective and helpful
Included with this workshop:
This workshop is relevant to any person who works with groups - managers, educators, adventure facilitators, after school program staff and more
There are no prerequisites for attendance to this workshop. Participants will need access to Zoom (video platform) and a location where they are comfortable participating online in a digital format. Participants will need Microsoft PowerPoint to use activity files.
