We’ve found Heat Shrink Tubing to be the best solution for creating a long lasting durable label on climbing ropes. Included with the tubing is an adhesive label. All you need is a permanent marker and a heat gun.

Why label your Ropes?

  • “Soft equipment” (ropes, harnesses, lanyards, etc.) break down over time, even if they’re just sitting on the shelf. Labeling your ropes is a great way to keep track of how old it is.
  • Labels will also help you identify which ropes go with which elements.
  • We recommend writing the length of the rope on the label for future reference.

Tips for labeling and heat shrinking your rope.

  • Use a permanent marker on the label.
  • The rope needs to be labeled with the year of manufacture, not the year it is put into service.
  • Stick the label on the end of the rope and slide the tubing over it.
  • Take care when shrinking the the tube with a heat gun (a low setting should suffice).
    • The rope can be melted if too much heat is applied
    • The heat shrink has been fully shrunk when the pattern of the rope can be seen in the label sticker and/or the glue can be seen coming out the ends.
